News24 reports that President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to announce his inclusive government of national unity (GNU) Cabinet soon.
According to the report, a source close to Ramaphosa, who is not authorised to speak to the media, confirmed that the president was expected to make the all-important announcement on Thursday.
Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya has pleaded for patience as Ramaphosa makes final touches to his list. Magwenya said: “Once the president concludes the consultations with GNU partners and the leadership of the governing party, he will apply his mind and exercise his prerogative as vested in him under Section 91(2) of the Constitution. At this stage we are unable to give any timelines as to when he will announce his cabinet appointments.”
News24 also understands that no agreement has been reached with the DA yet.
While there have been intense negotiations behind closed doors, constitutionally the decisions over Cabinet positions rests solely with the sitting head of state.
Prominent business lobby group Business Unity South Africa's (BUSA) chief executive, Cas Coovadia, told News24 that an announcement was imminent.
"(We are) anticipating negotiations to conclude today and announcement tomorrow, or latest Friday. But, [ there are] lots of uncertainties," he said.
