The Day Has Finally Arrived as The National Assembly Convenes Today
The highly anticipated day has finally arrived as the first sitting of the National Assembly takes place today, 14 June 2024 despite the absence of 58 uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party MPs, the assembly remains constitutionally sound with its 400-strong membership, as declared by the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC). The MK party's boycott, although significant, does not undermine the legal and functional legitimacy of the National Assembly.
Road Closures
With the National Assembly sitting, the City of Cape Town has announced numerous road closures around the CTICC. The majority of these closures will commence from 18:00 this evening, significantly affecting traffic flow in the Foreshore area.
These closures will remain until the events at the CTICC conclude, and motorists are advised to plan alternative routes to avoid congestion.
Incident Reports
In most areas, the situation remains relatively calm, possibly due to the anticipation of how the sitting will unfold. While there are still typical sporadic protests, no unusual or clearly politically motivated unrest has been reported. We will continue to monitor the situation throughout the day and issue an update report should there be any changes.
Assurance from Excellerate Services
